When Sadists Are Allowed to Design Airplanes

I have a theory about the designers who work in the aircraft industry. They are sadists. It is impossible that someone with normal mental health could have created such a diabolical torture device. Just when I thought that air travel could not get any more uncomfortable, along comes the Skyrider Saddle. That’s right. They’re not making any pretense of calling it a seat. It is a perch with a bump that is designed to numb the crotch. Are swollen feet, neck cramps and low back pain the limits that the human body can tolerate? Hah! Don’t you just wish? Those annoyances are not even close to what the designers have in store for us in the future. I can’t wait until they do away with seats and saddles. Why not just pack us in like cattle? We can then just lean against one another. The more packed together we are, the more support, right? No need for flight attendents. They can just dangle hoses from the ceiling for water and issue diapers before boarding. Someone suggested they just install an IV in every arm before the flight and knock us out. Sounds preferable to the parrot perch they have planned for us in the future.I really do want to know who these geniuses are that get paid to test the limits of human endurance on an airplane. Are they crazy? And how have we allowed ourselves to become rats, trapped in a metal tube in the sky? Maybe we are the crazy ones.

Hawaii is a quirky place. Paradise, with a twist. Astonishing natural beauty and an economy that is fueled by tourists. Lots and lots and lots of tourists. Locals have a love/hate relationship with visitors. The spirit of aloha is alive and well, along with a spirit of hostility toward greedy developers. Visitors to the islands benefit from the fight to preserve and protect this tropical Eden. Enjoy your visit. Now, go home.

What is a Chair?

“There has been an attempt, an erroneous one, to make a special class of the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie is simply the contented portion of the people. the bourgeois is the man who has now time to sit down. A chair is not a caste.”                  Victor Hugo

Ashes imposed on the forehead of a Christian o...

What the devil is Ash Wednesday, anyway? There’s this thing called the church calendar. What does it look like and where can I buy one? A bunch of evangelical Christians got together to commemorate Ash Wednesday tonight. More and more evangelicals are returning to rituals. Candles, incense, all the stuff the Catholics have been doing for years…okay, a LOT of years. What’s going on? Don’t know, but I like it. I can’t think of anyplace but church where I can go and mingle with grey-haired biker dudes, teens with tats, babies, toddlers, pregnant mommies, recovering alcoholics, 90 year-0ld white guys, families from Kenya, the Philippines, Cuba, Mexico and…oh, yeah…the USA. What do they all have in common? Maravillosa cruz.
